Bonaire

Bonaire

I have recently returned from Bonaire where I spent a week scuba diving in the pristine waters with the Orlando Reef Divers. I’ll keep the stories short so that my readers can enjoy the photos and video. Most of the diving on Bonaire is shore diving that ranged from very easy to quite difficult based on rocks and waves. The following image shows the dive sites that are mostly on the west coast of the island (red indicators). The entire coastal area is a nature preserve.

The island is very hot and humid and is considered a desert environment outside of the brackish lakes that attract the flamingos from nearby Venezuela. We stayed at Buddy Dive Resort which I highly recommend.

One quick story. Bob, Darren, Sara, and I were about to dive on a site named Karpata which required us to don our gear and traverse about 30 stairs down to the shore. Darren and Sara decided to scout out the site from the top of the stairs but didn’t see the large iguana that stealthily approached them from behind. Bob suggested that they look behind themselves and they seemed to be confused until they saw the large reptile at which point they both jumped (and I think screamed a little). I approached the iguana and it had no fear of humans. In fact it aggressively approached me and started to climb up my leg.

Anyway, on to the photos.
