Running to start 2020 off right

Running to start 2020 off right

I have started off this year with a handful of races. I can't say that I have made much improvement if any and it was motivating me to stay more active but that motivation has dropped off. Hopefully after today's race I'll regain that motivation. With that said here are my races so far this year.

The First Weekend of Races

Space Race 3K - Jan 17th, 2020

I really love this race. It takes place at the Kennedy Space Center's Visitor Complex at night which is really cool. The weather was a very nice but it was a bit breezy which made it cool while we were waiting for the race to start. I finished the race in 25:19.

Feeding Frenzy 5K - Jan 18th, 2020

Because I am a glutton for punishment I had signed up for two more races. I had done the Shark Bite 5k last year and this year the organizers of that race created a challenge where you could run a 5k race the day before the Shark Bite 5K. I decided "what the hell" and I signed up for the Feeding Frenzy Challenge. The first race of the Feeding Frenzy Challenge was the Feeding Frenzy 5K. The race was on Saturday evening and I had driven up to New Smyrna Beach a handful of hours early. This was fortunate as I initially went to the wrong location as I hadn't read the race info. But I had lunch and chilled until the race was going to start. I had a decent run but I ran out of gas and my right foot went a little bit number towards the end of the race. I finished with a time of 42:57.

Shark Bite 5K - Jan 19th, 2020

I was a bit insane I think. I think the huge finishers medal is a big motivation for this race. I chose to drive back up to New Smyrna Beach on Sunday morning in order to run the second race in the Shark Bite Challenge. It was a bit cooler that morning.I attempted to do well but I guess having multiple races on consecutive days took its toll. I finished but I walked a lot more than I wanted to. My time for this race was 44:20.

With that finish I did complete the Shark Bite Challenge and got an extra medal. After I finished I stuck around and watched the other runners doing the half marathon and cheering them into the finish-line. It was really interesting.

Run for the Woods 5K - Feb 2nd, 2020

After a little bit of a break I attended my first off-road race of the year at the Race for the Woods 5K. It was a very cold morning in the Seminole State Forest but I finished the race with a time of 43:35.2.

Real Florida 5K - Feb 29th, 2020

I've run this off-road race in the Wekiwa Springs State Forest for a good handful of years. I've been slacking in regards to keeping up with my running regime lately and I felt a bit out of shape and out of gas on this run. But I still finished with a time of 43:01 based on my timing but it was a gun time of 44:09.
